Hardware in the loop (HiL)

LABCAR HiL Systems

Hardware in the loop systems integrate an ECU with a simulated ECU environment. The ECU environment includes all components of the vehicle system, i.e. set-point generators, sensors, actuators, as well as components for diagnostics. The use of HiL systems, or lab vehicles, allows ECUs to be tested early on
in a virtual test environment without real environment components.

HiL technology has reached a good maturity level. However, the total cost of ownership for HiL technology remains high. Therefore, efficiency and cost reduction are important goals for the development of LABCAR HiL systems. Reliable operation and good usability are other key requirements.

LABCAR Product Family

The LABCAR product portfolio for HiL systems is split into two categories. First, there is PT-LABCAR, an integrated HiL system for applications in the powertrain domain. PT-LABCAR is an open and scalable HiL system with standardized wiring architecture, which reduces system integration efforts. Its base configuration addresses typical application scenarios. It can be upgraded easily to address high-end applications as well.
 
Second, there are single LABCAR hardware- and software products for building fully customized solutions. In particular, these single components can be integrated with a fully customized wiring harness.   

LABCAR Models are optionally available for all LABCAR solutions. The integration of LABCAR with INCA measurement and calibration tools allows the pre-calibration of ECUs in the laboratory.

All LABCAR HiL systems share the following key features:

  • Open, modular and scalable architecture for easy system reconfiguration and upgrades
  • Simulation model computation with a standard PC and Linux real-time operating system
  • Seamless integration with various plant modeling tools, such as Mathlab Simulink
  • Synchronous data acquisition with INCA measurement and calibration tool
